This is our Imaging Ellipsometer I-Elli2000 built by Nanofilm. It can measure film thickness with a resolution of �1 � on solid support but also at the air-water interface if the monolayer is stable enough. It generates a color image that has the color scale converted to nm. This image can be also converted to a 3D image that can show very easily defects in the thin film. The equipment is computer controlled through a controller, see below:
The electronic box on top, built by Halcyonics is the controller of the active vibration isolation table. It was found experimentally that the vibration isolation also applies for the small ripples on the water surface during compression not only for the isolation regarding vibrations from the environment.
