Dipendra Khadka

Education: Completed MS degree program with a major in Chemistry from Central Department of Chemistry, Tribhuvan University (TU).

Why chemistry: Chemsitry is something that makes connection with everything in this observable universe. As a chemistry lover, understanding behavior of molecules is a key for the future to keep innovating new materials for the society.

Educational goal: I have a simple goal of my educational career and that is to contribute more and more on to the research and development of materials.

Background: I grew up in a village of chitwan district which is categorized as tourist place. I spent more than 20 years there and moved to Kathmandu (capital city ) to continue my studies.

Hobbies: Drawing, Watching Movies, Tennis

Educational background: Completed BS-MS (Chemistry Major and Math Minor) from Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER), Pune and Super 30 (High school)

Your educational goal:  Being trained by Super 30, an institute for unprivileged students in India. It’s always my goal to take education to the remotest part of the world. I believe that education is the tool which can transform the world, and everyone must have it.

Why Chemistry: I look chemistry as a tool to solve mysteries.  A fundamental understanding of molecules can help us design something that could help the whole humankind. From discovering Penicillin to finding a cure to cancer, chemistry has helped us in a long journey.

Something about where you came from (not more than 3 sentences):  I come from Patna, Bihar (India), the land of Buddha.

Hobbies: Swimming, meditation, listening to Indian classical music

Education: Completed M.Sc. degree from IIT Kharagpur, India majoring in Chemistry and also done my B.Sc. from St. Xaviers College, Kolkata in Chemistry.

Why Chemistry?  Will Durant has remarked rightly, “Every science begins as philosophy and ends as art”. Science has always been a source of unflinching motivation for me and throughout my formative years.

According to me, research is the best profession to pursue if one is eager to delve deep into the realms of the subject. Science is evolutionary, and we will always remain in the paucity of good researchers unless we nurture avidity for scientific research. Chemistry is the subject that fascinates me a lot and motivates me tirelessly to contribute to the evolution of science in the world.

Educational goal: From my childhood, I want to become a good teacher. I want to explore more in science and do some noticeable work in the field of science.

Background: I came from Nalhati, a town in West Bengal, India. This place is famous for the temple Nalateswari.

Hobbies: Listening to music and reading books.

Education: Completed BS-MS Dual degree program with a major in Chemistry from Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, Mohali (IISERM).

Why Chemistry:  Seeing the world through a scientific lens makes even the most mundane of things like watching a candle burn, an enlightening and vibrant exercise. In my opinion, since all of one’s real world surrounding is made up of matter, chemistry which deals with the matter and interaction of different types of matter helps one understand and comprehend even most monotonous events.

Educational goal: My dream in life is to establish a productive foundation for inspiring, training, and encouraging the scientific temper by employing a curriculum based on experiments and pragmatism in young school going students, which I believe would be a platform for the students to not only gain knowledge, but also to interact with people from different backgrounds, to develop critical and creative thinking skills, to discover their passions, and to fulfill their bravest dreams. Until I live my dream, my educational goals will change as I deem necessary to help achieve my dream.

Background:  My family hails from an agricultural village in the district of Ramanathapuram, Tamil Nadu (India), which is also the birthplace of former president of India Dr. A P J Abdul Kalam. However, for most of my childhood, I was raised in state of Kerala (India) which is dubbed by many lovingly as God's own Country.

Hobbies: Caroms, Driving and Hiking

Educational background:  Completed BS-MS dual degree program with a major in Chemistry from Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, Pune (IISER-P).

Why Chemistry: A flood of questions used to arise as I would observe the night sky that was full of stars, bioluminescence of fireflies and the revolutionary change that plastics made in our current society.  These burning queries and curiosity to know what is happening around inspired me to pursue chemistry as chemistry is the answer for everything.

Educational Goal: To become a skillful Researcher who can build an understanding to visualize and tackle a research problem.

Something about where I came from: Born and raised in the enchantingly beautiful Indian state, Kerala, which is known as 'The God's own country'.

Hobbies: Playing Volleyball and Cricket

Education: Completed BS-MS Dual degree program with a major in Chemistry from Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, Mohali (IISERM)

Why Chemistry: I was fascinated by the periodic table when I learned about it in high school. The idea that everything that I saw around me is comprised of some hundred elements that could be neatly arranged in a table was intriguing and studying how these elements “danced” with each other to create the beautiful world that I see every day seemed like an exciting possibility. It is a journey that I enjoy to this day.

Educational Goal: My dream is to contribute to the development of our society and our understanding of the universe. Our species transformed from hunters on the planes of Africa to space explorers because of our innovations and our desire to find answers. My goal is to be a part of this noble venture and to leave behind a legacy of scientific inquiry to the ones who come after me.

Background: I hail from Anchal, a beautiful suburb on the outskirts of the bustling city of Kollam, Kerala (India). Growing up in “The God’s Own Country”, the most literate state in India, taught me the importance of hard work and perseverance.

Hobbies: Listening to music, competitive chess and gaming
